Resortecs expands Design for Disassembly into new product recovery applications

For years, Resortecs has worked to make products easier to disassemble and recycle through Design for Disassembly.
As we have continued testing our technologies with brands, manufacturers, and partners, we have seen that disassembly can create value long before a product reaches its end of life.

A product that can be opened selectively can be repaired, adapted, stripped of unnecessary components, recovered for reuse or prepared for high-quality recycling. This has led Resortecs to expand its applications around Smart Stitch™ and Smart Disassembly™, covering more of the product lifecycle and keeping more options open for what happens next.

Repair

Repair is often limited by access.
When components are difficult to reach or remove, even a simple intervention can become time-consuming or economically unviable.

Smart Stitch™ enables selected seams to be opened under controlled heat, providing access to specific areas of a product without dismantling the entire construction.
This can facilitate targeted repairs and component replacement while preserving the rest of the product.

Delabeling and Unlining

Labels, trims and other attached components can prevent products from being reused or resold, particularly when products are returned, unsold or classified as Grade B.

With Smart Stitch™, selected components can be removed under controlled heat, making it easier to access and recover the underlying product.
Instead of destroying or downcycling products, brands can prepare them for resale, reuse or another application.

Recovering high-value materials and components

Not every valuable material needs to wait until the recycling stage.
Products can contain components worth recovering separately, from technical trims and premium materials to valuable insulation and other specialised components.

Designing these elements for disassembly makes targeted recovery possible. Resortecs’ technologies can help separate selected components while preserving their value and creating new opportunities for reuse or integration into other products.

Transformation and refurbishment

Products do not always need to be repaired exactly as they were made.
Sometimes their next use requires changing, replacing or removing specific parts.
By making selected seams reversible, Smart Stitch™ can facilitate access to components and support product transformation and refurbishment.
This creates more flexibility for products that need to evolve rather than simply reach an end point.

Recycling

When a product can no longer be repaired, reused or transformed, its materials still have value.
Design for Disassembly can make the preparation for recycling more efficient by allowing components that interfere with material recovery to be removed before recycling.

For larger volumes, Smart Disassembly™ provides an automated thermal disassembly and sorting process designed to operate at industrial scale.
